bAKEHOUSE Theatre Company is casting for

CORAM BOY by Helen Edmundson

22 November - 7 December at KXT

directed by John Harrison & Michael Dean

CORAM-BOY-FINAL.jpg

About the play: Coram Boy is a tale of two cities - London and Gloucester - and two orphans at the Coram Hospital for Foundling Children: Toby, saved from an African slave ship, and Aaron, the abandoned son of the heir to a great estate. On the cusp of the Industrial Revolution, the wealth of England’s aristocracy is built on slavery and children are its commodities. Born poor, or of the wrong sex, or the wrong skin colour, or with a disability, the world’s unwanted children face a terrible future.

Spanning 3 generations, Jamila Gavin’s best-selling novel is at once a glorious love story and an epic Dickensian thriller. It is a spell-binding, heart-breakingly beautiful tale of fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, children lost and found, betrayal and murder. And love. And the redemption that love brings.

What we're looking for: We're putting together a large diverse cast of 16 actors to play over 30 roles. Age range 18 - 55, with a split of 8-10 women and 6-8 men. We are looking for actors with strong movement and development skills, and a number of roles will require strong singing ability.

What you need to know:

  • Rehearsals commence part-time in September and will be arranged around actors availability

  • There will be a small number of developments prior to the rehearsal period

  • The season runs November 22 - December 07.

  • Auditions will be held on Sunday May 5th midday - 8pm and Wednesday May 8th 6.30 - 10.00 pm

  • Callbacks will be scheduled for Thursday May 9th and Sunday May 12th.

  • You will be asked to prepare a classical monologue of not more than 2 minutes duration. You may be asked to read from the script.

  • Please note that we are a small independent company and will be unable to see all applicants.

  • This is a profit-share production, with a guaranteed fee for all cast, with any subsequent profit shared equitably across all cast and key creatives. As with all our productions, bAKEHOUSE personnel waive their fees and share of profit to facilitate this.
