Building a sustainable future for independent theatre
KXT is entering a new phase.
For more than a decade, we have played a vital role in Australia’s independent theatre landscape — supporting thousands of artists, championing new voices, and creating work that reflects the world around us.
Now, we are focused on securing our future.
This is not about rescuing a struggling organisation.
It is about strengthening a proven one.
We are building a model of long-term financial independence — one that reduces reliance on volatile government funding and allows KXT to operate sustainably, confidently, and with purpose.
The venue exists.
The artists are here.
The work is happening.
What’s required now is the financial foundation to support it — ensuring that the next decade of artists inherit something stronger than the last.
A Shared Investment in the Sector
KXT is more than a theatre.
It is a vital piece of shared cultural infrastructure — a space that underpins hundreds of artists, productions, and creative careers each year.
This campaign is about ensuring KXT is stable, independent, and able to say yes —
to diversity, to risk, and to new voices — without waiting for permission.
To do this, we are building a culture of annual giving, anchored by three donor tiers.
Each plays a distinct role in securing KXT’s future.
Our Donor Tiers
Tier 1 — The KXT100
The KXT100 is a simple idea with real power:
100 people giving $1,000 each year for 1, 3 or 5 years.
This is the community engine of our campaign — a collective act of support that transforms goodwill into real, ongoing impact.
It is not about prestige.
It is about participation, continuity, and shared responsibility.
—
Tier 2 — The Baker’s Dozen
The Baker’s Dozen is a collective of donors whose support quite literally holds KXT together.
At $5,000, these contributions stabilise operations at a critical moment — ensuring that artists are supported, productions continue, and the organisation can function with confidence.
Members are advocates and allies — people who understand how rare and necessary this kind of space is.
—
Tier 3 — THE INNER VAULT
KXT is inviting a small group of visionary supporters into the Inner Vault — people who understand that independent theatre doesn’t just happen, it is built on bold and impactful partnerships.
A gift at this level exponentially accelerates KXT’s transition to financial independence. It creates breathing room for our leadership team to fundraise, advocate, and plan rather than firefight. Just as importantly, Inner Vault members are helping model a different future for the sector, one where artists and venues are not forced into perpetual crisis.
These are legacy donations that create stability at a structural level — allowing KXT to plan, grow, and lead, rather than simply respond.
This is infrastructure funding at its most impactful.
A Collective Effort
No single donor secures the future of KXT.
It is built through a combination of leadership, commitment, and community. From opening our doors within Sydney’s classic Kings Cross in 2015, then moving to our very own Broadway in 2023, our team has continued to deliver affordable and accessible theatre to a broad audience; opportunities for hundreds of artists every year; and genuine pathways for sustainable careers in the arts.
We’re still at it - and we need your help. Together, we can continue to invest in the next generation of theatre makers and their work
Be Part of What Comes Next
KXT has spent the past decade building something extraordinary.
This campaign is about completing that work.
It is about ensuring that artists continue to have a place to begin,
and that independent theatre continues to have a place to thrive.
Join us in building the next decade.
