It’s Christmas Eve in Australia, and Heepa is hosting the annual family Christmas Party. Only problem is… his grandma isn’t coming.

In a last-ditch effort to win her back, Heepa travels to yōudū 幽都 — the Chinese underworld — with his trusty summoning book, hoping to convince his ghostly ancestors to use their magic to help him. But to earn their blessing, he must face his past, confront his future, and reckon with the complicated relationship he has with his Paw Paw.

A Chinese Christmas is a heartwarming, nostalgic, and often silly tale about a boy and his grandmother. Blending English and Chinese, myth and memory, live traditional music and text, it delves into the complexities of growing up Chinese in Australia and the unique result of blending two cultures together. A love letter to the ones who raised us—a celebration of family, cultural identity, and the ties that connect us across generations.
