“When it comes to attempting the impossible, bAKEHOUSE has form, so it’s no surprise that they have once again, achieved what really shouldn’t be possible…” Sydney Morning Herald

We are asking for your help to achieve what really shouldn’t be possible…

SUPPORT KXT ON BROADWAY

HOW?? At KXT on Broadway we strive to contribute to the diversity, vibrancy and sustainability of Sydney’s rich cultural and artistic communities. For as little as $5,000 you can join us as we attempt the impossible.

bAKER’s Dozen

The ones who started it all…each year 13 donors contribute $5,000 a year. These 13 donors make up the bAKER’s Dozen. They support our micro-areas of sustainability, infrastructure, program and production. In other words: they keep the doors open

THE bAKER’s DOZEN receives

  • Their personal or business name on the bAKER’s Dozen Wall.

  • Donor eNews

  • Invitations to Performances and Donor events

After two years donors are invited to partner with us to become: Sustainability Donors; Infrastructure Donors; Program Donors; Production Donors

Production DonorS

The ones who make the show go on…Do you love the plays you see on our stage? Production Donors are invited to invest $10,000 to a selected show in the KXT on Broadway season. In doing so they support New Australian writing and invest in programming emerging artists

PRODUCTION DONORS receive

  • Personal or Business naming rights to a production on our website, promotional materials, show program and all social media.

  • Donor eNews

  • Invitations to Opening Nights and Donor events

Program DonorS

The ones who help the artists thrive… Are you concerned for the future of Australian theatre? A Program Donor sponsors $15,000 to the bAKEHOUSE Artist Support programs including Step Up, bAKEHOUSE Residencies, Storylines, production placements and internships. This work supports upskilling and developing emerging and early career artists and invests in new Australian work that will be considered for programming across mainstage and independent theatres in Australia and internationally.

  • Personal or Business naming rights on all artist program promotion.

  • Personal or business name on the Vault Supporter’s wall in KXT’s Vault.

Infrastructure DonorS

The ones who keep the building working… do you love our old bank as much as we do?! An infrastructure donor invests $20,000 to assist bAKEHOUSE to maintain the building, venue and equipment needed for shows and programs to run. These are the nuts and bolts of the theatre and funds go to: lighting rig and sound upgrade; renovated bar and kitchen facilities; foyer, flooring and building maintenance. Your investment means our iconic 130 year old home will continue to operate as a state of the art theatre

Anonymous HeroES

Do you like a bit of mystery?… Over the years, we’ve had anonymous donors who have helped to build KXT for the love of it - without wanting any credit. The Anonymous Hero donates a nominated amount over $20,000. They can choose where their contribution goes: production, program, infrastructure or sustainability.

They receive… let’s talk!

PROGRAMMING FOR SUCCESS

KXT - KINGS CROSS THEATRE was established by bAKEHOUSE Theatre Company in late 2015 as part of a plan to support and grow the arts and theatre community in Sydney. bAKEHOUSE Theatre Company has been producing, and investing in diverse works, new writing and women-led projects for many years. We are proud to be providing opportunities for emerging and established artists.

We strive to contribute to the diversity, vibrancy and sustainability of Sydney’s rich cultural and artistic communities.

We began in the heart of Sydney on Level 2 of the iconic Kings Cross Hotel. In 2023 - after 7 years of successful operation, in response to the expanding focus in the Cross on music and our continued growth - we designed, built and opened our new home here at KXT on Broadway in an 1890s bank, another iconic building. Since opening the doors at Ultimo in March 2023 KXT on Broadway has delivered a further 19 seasons and 2 festivals; and our new space here in the Vault has allowed us to support 17 developments; an additional 2 pop up seasons; and provide 13 weeks of rehearsal space free to cash strapped independent producers.

In that time we’ve supported 12 world premieres: 16 Australian premieres; 7 seasons of work led by artists of colour; 17 women-led productions; while providing space for hundreds of artists. Meanwhile downstairs in the Vault we made space for 24 theatre makers developing work, alongside dozens of actors. We’ve hosted 10 panels with discussions ranging from women in the arts to the safety of students on university campuses. This space has been home to at least half a dozen play readings, multiple workshops, post show events and karaoke.

At bAKEHOUSE we believe in the power of theatre and art to transform lives. KXT on Broadway presents us with an opportunity to introduce others to the make-do wonder that is independent theatre, to support artists as they find their way in Sydney’s often aggressively competitive arts world, to build a new audience, to walk alongside the next generation of arts leaders. We’ve proved that we can deliver extraordinary results for independent, emerging and early career artists, and we’d like you to do this with us.
