To be an immigrant is to be haunted.
At 10, Maria Clara doesn't believe in ghosts. After all, the former First Lady of the Philippines Imelda Marcos is very much alive at the time she was visited by her.
At 24, Maria Clara knows ghosts are real. But she's struggling to come to terms with what's actually haunted her: her deceased mother or the unfulfilled dreams of the Philippine people lost to corruption?
