we are now taking applications for March - May in the inaugural KXT UNDERGROUND season
The KXT VAULT is the bAKEHOUSE support centre for arts and community. With a focus on artists support, the development of new work, and community engagement it’s the beating heart of our home on Broadway.
In 2026 we expand the opportunities on offer, and introduce UNDERGROUND, a season of work in the KXT Vault, a home for low-tech, low-cost, high-risk work, surprise small seasons for intimate audiences
With so much work being developed by Sydney’s thriving community of Independent Artists, there is a significant and concerning lack of supported spaces available to artists. We’re opening the doors to a safe space for risky work. If you’re familiar with our program of work in alternative spaces in KX Hotel - Visiting Hours; Fringe Benefits, Popup ComeOut, Popupstairs all played out on other levels of the hotel - then you'll recognise the opportunity: a season of work in the KXT program, supported by KXT personnel, offering profile for your work and presenting a low-cost opportunity for young companies, new work, and non-traditional seasons.
At KXT we love to suport new writing and early career artists! Work that took its first steps in the KXT Popupstairs program includes UBU by Tooth & Sinew; Not Today an award-winning touring cabaret by Ally Morgan, Doing Amy Sole’s first directing role, and Little Eggs’ Rime of the Ancient Mariner. It was also the home of truly experimental performance in the Popup ComeOut program, hosting a broad range of work including spoken word, improv, stand up, drag and performance art.
Importantly, KXT Underground is a program that will allow artists to meet and work with the KXT team, and for bAKEHOUSE to become familiar with their work.
